Thanks to pro bono legal services from Huyen-Lam Q. Nguyen-Bull and Jared Van Kirk of Garvey Schubert Barer and Northwest Immigrant Rights Project’s (NWIRP) support (particularly Chris Strawn), JoJo’s motion to reopen asylum petition before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) has been submitted and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is not opposing the petition, and most significantly JOJO’s CASE WILL BE HEARD. This is a significant win for JoJo’s asylum case.
Carol Edward, JoJo’s new lawyer, will bring federal immigration litigation experience to his legal team. Lam Nguyen-Bull and NWIRP continue to work on JoJo’s case, but the next step requires a lead attorney with the experience and time to take it to this next level.
JoJo is completely legal to be here while waiting for his case to come up before the immigration court.
Thanks to everyone who came to JoJo’s Fundraiser at the Spitfire, and to those who couldn’t make it, but donated to the bank or online. We have raised over $8,000!
We are now estimating needing a total of $15,000 to cover the legal fees in this case. As of mid-September we still need to raise $6,500.
